Overview
The Lagos Red Killifish has a variety of common names, including the Twostripe Lyretail, Red Lyretail and Two-Banded Killifish. Hobbyists usually refer to killifish by their scientific names. This killifish is vibrantly colored with a metallic, silvery or tan base, two thick black stripes along the sides of their body, and is mottled with black spots on the dorsal and tail fin. The body and fins have varying degrees of red pigmentation.
In the wild, they live in dimly lit areas so the tank shouldn't have strong lighting. They will also appreciate live plants. The tank should have a tight fitting lid to prevent them from jumping out. They are a hardy fish and suitable for community tank setups, and are not difficult to care for whether you are a beginner or an expert. They will spawn readily in captivity.
While they will readily accept pellet and flake foods, they should also be supplemented with live and frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, tubifex, and other similar meaty foods.
