Overview
The Similar Damselfish is named such due to its remarkably similar appearance to Yellowtail Damselfish. Like the Yellowtail damsels, it is bright blue in color with a striking yellow tail. However, unlike Yellowtails, its yellow coloring does not extend slightly onto the body, it ends abruptly at the base of the tail. Both species have a black horizontal line marking across their eyes.
It is less aggressive than other species of damsels and is less inclined to pick on other tank mates. It should be given plenty of hiding places, which will help reduce any aggression towards other fish. It is completely reef safe and hardy. It should be fed both meaty and herbivorous preparations, and is a ravenous eater that will readily accept most foods. This species is happiest in a small, odd-numbered shoal and they may chase each other to establish a pecking order of sorts.
