Overview
The Paradise Fish is a member of the Gourami species prized for its bright coloring. Similar in body form to another close relative, the Betta fish, they have long, flowing fins and blunt heads with an upward facing mouth. Their bodies are striped, alternating between orange and turquoise.
They require plenty of swimming space and a tank with a tight fitting lid to prevent jumping. A territorial fish, they will claim an area of the aquarium and will fiercely defend it against any invaders. As such, they should only be kept with similar sized, other semi-aggressive fish. There should only be one male per tank, but multiple females can be housed together safely.
Paradise Fish are omnivores and should be fed both meaty foods and pellets and flakes that include vegetable matter. They will enjoy live, dried or frozen bloodworms and tubifex.
