Cleithracara maronii.

• Appearance: Keyhole cichlids have subdued coloration, with yellow-cream scales. They grow up to 4 inches in a tank and have elongated dorsal and anal fins. The most distinguishing feature is the black keyhole marking on their upper flank, which resembles a spot or short stripe. They also have a black line running across their head through the eye.
• Behavior: These fish are docile and shy, making them popular among beginner fishkeepers. They don’t eat plants or burrow, making them suitable for planted aquariums.
• Habitat: Keyhole cichlids inhabit slow-moving waters with dense vegetation. They’re primarily found in river basins, tributaries, or coastal creeks in South America.
• Lifespan: They can live up to 10 years in ideal tank conditions.
• Scientific Name: Their name comes from the keyhole marking on their bodies, and the genus name Cleithracara means “lock acara” in Greek and Guaraní
• Tank Setup: Provide slow-moving water, dense vegetation, and hiding spots for these timid fish.
• Compatibility: They get along well with similar-sized peaceful fish.
