Overview
The Achilles Tang is considered one of the most beautiful saltwater fish available in the hobby. The base color ranges from dark brown to almost black with some purple tones. A white marking is present on the gill covers and the edges of the tail are outlined in white. They bear a striking, fiery orange tear dropped shaped marking close to the base of their tail where the body begins to taper, and the same orange color lines the base of their dorsal and anal fins towards the back half of their bodies. The tail fin is mostly orange as well.
They should have an adequately large tank that meets their demand for plenty of swimming space. They are extremely active and if kept in a tank that is too small they will certainly become stressed and may die. The tank also needs incredibly strong water flow with multiple directions of current to emulate their natural habitat. They are peaceful towards other fish, aside from other tangs and surgeonfish for which they have no tolerance. They will not bother corals or invertebrates.
Since Achilles Tangs are herbivores, they should be fed plenty of herbivorous preparations and given seaweed to pick at for proper nutrition. They can also be fed frozen mysis shrimp and will eat other foods meant for their tankmates once they have adjusted to captivity.
