Overview

The Flat Flyer Plecostomus is also commonly called the Flyer Cat. They are dark grey or charcoal in color and covered in numerous white or cream colored spots. When mature, their cheeks will have bristles on them. Males can be identified by their much larger, more impressive cheek bristles.

They should be given a large tank with adequate filtration with moderate flow to stimulate their natural environment. The tank should have driftwood and rockwork caves. Being a peaceful species, they can live with a wide variety of community fish. Like other plecos, they may be territorial towards their own species and need their own space.

As omnivores, they will do well on an algae wafer diet. They should be supplemented with vegetable matter and some meaty foods as well, and can be given live, frozen, pellets and high-quality flakes.
